Tutu to receive another peace prize

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Sydney Peace Prize Recipient, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, will soon receive another peace prize.

India’s Ministry of Toursim and Culture announced recently that Archbishop Tutu has been selected to receive the Gandhi Peace Prize this year. His citation reads: In honoring Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the nation pays tribute to an extraordinary man who, by his fearlessness, selflessness and dedication to the cause of humanity, upheld those ideals which were dear to Mahatma Gandhi.

India’s President Abdul KALAM will confer the prize on Archbishop Tutu at a special ceremony scheduled on 31 January 2007.

The Gandhi Peace Prize was first awarded in 1995 on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
