Nobel laureate and Sydney Peace Prize recipient, Professor Muhammad Yunus, was awarded the 2007 Golden Trailblazer Award last week.

The award was conferred by Vital Voices, a US-based organisation of global women leaders working to strengthen democracy, increase economic opportunity and fight human rights abuses around the world.

According to the Bangladesh Daily Star, this is the first time a man has been recognised by the global women leadership group.

Following the award ceremony, Prof Yunus delivered a lecture titled “Globalisation, Micro-enterprise and Poverty Alleviation” at Georgetown University.
