Professor Muhammad Yunus made a video presentation over the weekend at the 4th World Health Care Congress (22-24 April) which was attended by more than 1,800 CEOs, senior executives and government officials from the US’ largest employers, hospitals, health systems, health plans, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and leading government agencies.
Yunus was unable to be present that World Health Care Congress as he was attending the Boao Forum for Asia in southern China. At the conference, the Nobel Peace Laureate and 1998 Sydney Peace Prize winner urged conventional banks to enter the microcredit field.
Yunus said these banks “have the expertise, they have the knowledge. If they open up their services, this could be done faster than anybody else could do.”
“So far the response has been not as enthusiastic as I would have liked,” Yunus told reporters. “This is an exciting area, and a huge number of people around the world are waiting for this service,” he said.
